Shepherd s Pie – recipe-meat pie

Shepherd’s pie (Shepherd’s Pie) is a traditional English dish. However, for their ease of preparation, availability of products and wonderful taste, it became popular in countries such as USA, Australia, New Zealand (where it is called “rural pie” (cottage pie)).

A classic recipe using mutton. But today, many cooked pie of ground beef. Essentially, shepherd’s pie is a casserole, which consists of two layers: ground beef, with added vegetables and mashed potatoes.

Ingredients for pie Shepherd’s Pie:

500 gr of ground beef

1 large onion

2 carrots

1 Cup peas (you can use any vegetables, like beans, corn, etc.)

1/2 Cup beef broth

700 grams potatoes (about 3 potatoes of its size)

butter for cooking meat and mashed potatoes

milk 1/4 Cup (mashed)

salt, pepper to taste

Cooking meat pie:

Peel the potatoes, cut into quarters and boil in salted water until cooked (about 20 minutes).

At the time, while cooking the potatoes, chop the onion and carrot into small cubes, melt the butter in a pan and fry the vegetables until they are soft(about 10 minutes).

If You want to add other vegetables such as peas or corn, add them them at the end of the cooking onions and carrots, or after the meat is fully cooked.

Once onions and carrots are soft, add the peas and cook no a medium heat for about 3 minutes.

Add the ground beef, cook it until, until the meat is no longer pink. Season with salt and pepper.

To vegetables and meat, add broth and let it cook (anything without covering the pan) for 10 minutes.

Once the potatoes are soft, drain all water, add butter (2 tablespoons), season with salt and mash the potatoes. Add the milk (adjust milk hototo puree).

In fireproof dish place the meat with the vegetables on top of puree.

Cook the pie at 200C for 30 minutes.

Bon appetit, pie Shepherd’s Pie is ready. )))

p.s. Pie can also be served as portions using tartlets.
